…when we need to talk to you about your child’s attendance.
The Situation
Strong attendance is essential for achievement, wellbeing, and confidence. When attendance dips, we will contact you early to offer support—not blame.
What We’ll Do
- Monitor attendance daily and follow up on unexplained absences.
- We send attendance texts period by period, meaning you have an instant update if your child is not in class.
- We will make early contact if patterns of non-attendance emerge.
- Offer support, advice, or referrals if barriers are affecting attendance.
- Work in partnership with you to improve your child’s attendance in school.
How We’ll Support Your Child
- Check in with your child about how they’re feeling at school.
- Offer flexibility where possible to re-engage gently.
- Help rebuild routines and a sense of belonging.
- Keep your child included and involved in school life.
How You Can Support at Home
- Support positive attendance from your child. By doing so, you are supporting them to achieve as there is considerable evidence that supports the link between positive attendance and positive attainment.
- Avoid taking your child out of school unless totally necessary. Aim to make appointments out with the school day, avoid holidays during term-time and celebrate birthdays are the weekend to avoid taking a day off to do this.
- Let us know each day if your child is absent and why.
- Encourage good routines—sleep, breakfast, organisation.
- Speak to us early if your child is anxious or disengaged.
- Work with us—we’ll always take a supportive approach.
