…when you join a Campus tour as part
of our S1 Transition Process.
The Situation
When your child is starting in our secondary in August as an S1 pupil, we offer transition tours so children and families can get to know the Campus before officially starting. These tours are designed to build familiarity, ease nerves, and give a sense of what life at our campus is like. They typically take place in May before your child starts with us.
What We’ll Do
- The Head Teacher, Year Head and PT Pastoral will lead the tour so that you get to meet them. The tone of these tours is informal, warm and welcoming.
- Offer a guided tour of key areas: classrooms, lunch spaces, toilets, social areas.
- Offer key messages about the Campus and how we will work to support your child.
- Introduce some of the key adults your child may work with.
- Provide a chance to ask questions in a calm, informal setting.
- Keep groups small to allow time and space for everyone.
How We’ll Support Your Child
- Talk to them in a friendly, age-appropriate way to start to get to know them.
- Make sure they feel safe, welcomed, and listened to.
- Give reassurance and positive encouragement throughout the visit.
- Answer any questions they may have.
How You Can Support at Home
- Talk to your child about the visit and what they saw.
- Ask them what they’re excited or unsure about.
- Reassure your child using the information you have.
- Let us know if you have any concerns—we’re here to help.
