…when you child is making pathway choices (Options)
The Situation
Choosing subjects is an important part of your child’s learning journey. This happens in S2 for S3, in S3 for S4, in S4 for S5 and in S5 for S6. Our Pathways process helps our young people to make informed choices that support their interests, strengths, and future aspirations.
What We’ll Do
- Share clear information about all available subjects and qualifications. This is available at all times on our website.
- Offer a Pathways Information Evening or resources for parents/carers.
- Guide your child through pathways forms with input from key staff.
- Support their choices with advice on future education and careers.
- Make an appointment with your child with Skills Development Scotland (SDS) staff as necessary. (Your child or you can request an appointment).
- Invite parents/carers to be part of the pathways meeting.
How We’ll Support Your Child
- Meet with them individually or in small groups to explore options. This is an ongoing process which happens in PSE regularly.
- Involve Pastoral PTs and Careers Advisors to provide tailored guidance.
- Consider your child’s learning needs, interests, and personal goals.
- Help your child feel confident about their decisions.
How You Can Support at Home
- Talk to your child about their interests and future ambitions. Support them when they are unsure.
- Attend the information session or read the materials provided with your child.
- Encourage open-mindedness and help manage any anxiety about the process.
- Contact the Campus if you or your child have questions or concerns.
- Sometimes it is not possible for us to run all classes depending on the uptake. Please be understanding of this and ensure your child has ‘back-up’ options.
