…During the S1 Transition Days.

The Situation

Your child will take part in a 3-day S1 Transition Visit to help them feel confident and excited about starting secondary school. They’ll meet key staff, follow a sample timetable, and spend time with their new classmates.

What We’ll Do

  • Your child will meet us in the S1 playground to the back of the Campus.
  • We will welcome your child into their new class group
  • Provide a timetable so your child can experience different subjects and move around the building.
  • Introduce key staff, including their Year Head and Pastoral PT
  • Ensure all pupils are supervised and supported throughout
  • Provide free school lunches on the first 2 days. Pupils must bring a packed lunch on day 3. If your child is entitled to free school meals, a packed lunch will be provided for them.
  • Plan a special Health & Wellbeing Day on Day 3 to build confidence and connections. This will support all children to work together in teams to get to their new classmates and our staff team

How We’ll Support Your Child

  • Offer a safe, friendly environment to explore the school
  • Support them in navigating the building and routines by providing S6 Buddies who will be assigned to each class. Buddies will also support each child and answer any questions they may have.
  • Encourage new friendships and teamwork
  • Be on hand to answer questions and ease any worries
  • Keep in touch with their primary teachers to make the transition as smooth as possible.

How You Can Support as Parent/Carer

  • Talk positively about the move to secondary school—your confidence helps your child feel confident
  • Encourage questions and reassure your child that it’s okay to feel a bit nervous
  • Help your child to be organised for each day (comfortable shoes, bag, water bottle, wear primary school uniform etc)
  • Let us know of any concerns—big or small. The Campus and parents/carers are a team and we are here to help
