…when you Attend a Secondary Parents’ Evening.
The Situation
Parents’ Evenings are a valuable opportunity to talk with subject teachers about your child’s learning, strengths, and next steps.
What We’ll Do
- Contact you two weeks before the parents’ evening to share information about our online booking system. This allows you to book appointments with your child’s teachers. It is easy to use and offers a ‘booking wizard’ system which automatically books appointments with the teachers.
- We offer 5-minute appointments with each of your child’s teachers. Appointments are short as the teachers are seeing so many pupils.
- Share clear, specific information about progress and engagement.
- Highlight strengths and suggest strategies for support or improvement.
- Make time for your questions and concerns.
How We’ll Support Your Child
- Use the evening to celebrate success and set goals. We will give you a clear and supportive report.
- Ensure a positive tone and encourage shared responsibility.
- Follow up if needed to address issues raised.
How You Can Support at Home
- Review your child’s report beforehand (if available). The timing of reports differs for each year-group.
- Come with any questions you’d like answered.
- If you have a concern or complaint about a subject or teacher it is best if we know about this prior to
Parents’ Evening as 5 minute appointments are not conducive to resolving bigger issues. Please contact your child’s Pastoral Teacher or Year Head in advance to allow them to support a resolution.
- Share helpful context—your insights matter.
- Talk with your child afterwards about what went well and what’s next in their learning.
- Where your child has clear targets for improvement, please support them to make this a reality.
- We use Parents’ Evenings as a time to gather views through surveys etc. Please take some time to complete these.
