… when Skills Development Scotland Supports Your Child.
The Situation
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) works in partnership with Garnock Community Campus to support young people in planning for their future. This includes careers advice, support with subject choices, and preparing for life after school — whether that’s further education, training, or employment.
What We’ll Do
- Provide regular access to a fully qualified SDS Careers Adviser within the Campus
- Offer a 1:1 appointment to help your child explore their interests, strengths, and next steps
- Career planning – Help pupils build a career plan and set realistic goals.
- Deliver group sessions on pathways and provide up-to-date details about college, university, apprenticeships, and the labour market.
- Support subject choice decisions during key transitions (e.g. S2, S4, S5)
- Link with parents/carers where appropriate to support decision-making
- Support for transitions – Guide pupils moving from school to employment, further study, or training, including extra support for those at risk of leaving school without a clear plan.
How We’ll Support Your Child
- Help them understand their strengths, interests, and career options
- Provide practical advice on CVs, applications, and interviews
- Give up-to-date information on local opportunities and training routes
- Build confidence about their future — whatever path they choose
- Continue support after school through My World of Work and SDS post-school services to check progress and help if plans change.
