…when you attend a TAC Meeting for your Child.
The Situation
A Team Around the Child Meeting (TAC Meeting) brings together staff, parents/carers, and professionals to create a support plan for a child with additional needs or challenges. The goal is to work together to help them thrive. Your child will be present and an active participant in the meeting.
What We’ll Do
- Arrange the meeting at a time that works best for you.
- Invite relevant staff or professionals involved in your child’s care and education.
- Create a relaxed and welcoming environment for the meeting to take place.
- We will introduce you to all members of the team – but over time you will get to know us and this will not be necessary. We aim to build a relationship with you.
- The meeting is usually chaired by the Primary PT (Support) or the PT Pastoral Support in Secondary, but can be chaired by the Year Head or Head Teacher depending on the context.
- We will provide a summary of learning and progress from all class teachers. This will be gathered and present by a Principal Teacher in Primary or by your child’s PT Pastoral Support in Secondary.
- We will discuss learning and wellbeing in the meeting.
- We will listen carefully to your views and your child’s experience.
- We will ensure your child has a key voice in the meeting.
- Together we will all develop or review a support plan tailored to your child’s needs.
- Share the actions from the meeting with you as soon as we can following the meeting.
How We’ll Support Your Child
- Take actions from the meeting forward quickly and sensitively.
- Ensure support is consistent across school staff and services.
- Continue to monitor and adapt support as needed.
- Keep communication open and ongoing.
How You Can Support at Home
- Share honestly what’s going well and what you’re worried about.
- Help your child prepare for the meeting by preparing their views on advance.
- Work with us on any agreed actions.
- Let us know if things change. The more information we have, the more support we can give your child.
