On June the 16th until June the 18th, Garnock Academy’s stage school performed Sister Act after months of hard work and dedication. But what happened backstage?
First of all, I’d like to mention the brilliant Music and Drama department who did all the amazing jobs like casting, music and blocking, and to Aaron Walker who helped with all the props and set changes. In my opinion, everyone was phenomenal, with brilliant acting, singing and dancing. The harmonies were consistent and insanely impressive with the dances pairing nicely. Everyone was in sync and it was a stunning performance.
For those of you who haven’t watched the movie and weren’t able to catch the show, Sister Act is about a woman named Deloris in the 1970’s, trying to make it big as a singer and dreaming of being a star. However, her only way of being discovered is holding her back, this would be Curtis, a gang leader who owns a popular club. Deloris witnesses Curtis murder someone and is forced to hide out in a convent with nuns for her own safety. She notices the state of the choir and decides to step in and make the nun performance’s shine. After her miracle work gains popularity, Curtis finds out where she is hidden and goes after her, does he get her, or is his plan foiled by a bunch caring sisters? Now, despite my lovely summary, nothing beats the original, and there are so many more sub-plots, characters and moments I have missed out that you need to experience whilst watching it.
To conclude, I’d like to mention the amazing cast who pulled it all together, including the S6s who left this year. They truly finished on a high note and gave it their all just as they have been doing since the joined! They really inspired many of the younger cast, myself included, to try their best. They also made sure everyone, no matter what year, feel welcomed and known by always greeting you with a smile. They made my experience truly amazing, and I hope they are treated with nothing but kindness as they grow.
