S4 pupil Katy Louise, 15, has celebrated an incredible achievement after winning three gold medals at her very first Taekwondo competition.
Katy competed in the Taekwondo competition in Wishaw on 27 September, having only started training with Mr Stewart UKTC Taekwondo Club in North Ayrshire eight months ago.
When Katy first started training, she never imagined that she would be taking home one gold medal — let alone three! After months of hard work and training, she was delighted with the result.
“I can’t believe that I won these medals, it is amazing,” said Katy.
“I was so nervous when I stepped onto the mat, but then it just felt right and I felt calm.”
Katy says that Taekwondo has helped her grow in confidence as well as become stronger. She would encourage anyone who is thinking about giving the sport a try to get involved.
“When I started, I didn’t have much confidence and now I feel strong. I can’t wait for the next competition.”
Katy is incredibly proud of what she has achieved and is already looking forward to competing again. She would like to thank her mum for all her encouragement and support, as well as her Taekwondo teacher, Mr Stewart, for helping her along the way.
Congratulations to Katy on an amazing first competition — three gold medals is certainly a fantastic way to start!
