Beith Theatre Group: Roaring Rebellion at The Velvet Lounge

Roaring Rebellion at The Velvet Lounge lit up Beith Parish Hall on the 9th and 10th of May, as Beith Theatre Group delivered a show-stopping performance that truly lived up to its name. Set in a glamorous jazz club preparing for its final night, the production was a roaring success — packed with drama, charm, and showbiz sparkle.

The show followed a group of jazz club performers putting on one final, unforgettable performance. It featured songs such as Umbrella, Bad Guy, Thriller, Don’t Stop Me Now, Baby, and Poker Face.

Each performer had their own unique character and backstory — for example, Little Johnny Peanut, played by Jamie Greer. Johnny Peanut is a young singer who was always outshined by his brothers, until the Velvet Lounge owners swooped in and gave him a chance to perform. With his charm, captivating vocals, and strong stage presence, it’s a wonder of the world to see this star shine.

Another standout was Lola, played by Rebecca Brownsword — a girl who’s been heartbroken by the scum that is men. But instead of singing about sadness, Lola sings with attitude, proving that even after a breakup, she won’t be brought down. Her personality is bold and full of confidence. She delivers sassy, savage, attention-grabbing vocals with a fierce stage presence that leaves audiences in awe.

Overall, being part of The Velvet Lounge was a wonderful opportunity and an amazing show to be in. The cast was fabulous, the dances were perfection, and the attention to detail — from the costumes to the decorations that transformed the hall into a true jazz club — made the entire experience unforgettable.
