It’s normal to have the occasional bad day at school – they can feel overwhelming, but try not to be too hard on yourself. During the day you can visualise something comforting, chat with a friend, remind yourself that you’re doing your best or enjoy a treat to lift your mood. At the end of the day you can practice gratitude, have a nap, watch something you love, go on a walk or play a game to bring some calm to your day.
We all have those days when nothing seems to go right. Bad days at school can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry – you’re not alone, and it’s absolutely okay to have an off day.
Here are some tips to help you get through those tough moments :
Visualise
When things get rough, close your eyes for a moment and picture a place or a memory that makes you happy- maybe it’s a holiday, a fun day with friends or even just your room at home. Visualisation can help shift your mindset and bring a sense of calm.
Smile
Even if it’s forced, smiling can trick your brain into feeling better. It’s like giving yourself a mini boost of happiness.
Chat to a friend
Sometimes a quick chat to a friend can make all the difference – venting about what’s bothering you or just having a laugh together can lighten your mood.
Remind yourself you are doing your best.
It’s easy to be hard to yourself, especially when things aren’t going well – take a moment to remind yourself that you’re doing your best and that’s enough.
Have a treat
Grab a snack you love- sometimes, a little treat can give you that extra boost to power through the day.
At the end of the day
Practice gratitude: before you go to bed, think of 3 things you’re thankful for, even if they’re small – maybe it’s a sunny day, a kind word from a teacher or your lunch. Gratitude can shift your focus from what’s wrong to what’s right.
Have a nap
If you’re feeling low on energy, a quick nap can do wonders – even 20 minutes can recharge your batteries and improve your mood.
Watch something you love
Catching up on your favourite series can be really relaxing – whether it’s comedy, a drama or a reality show, let yourself unwind with something you enjoy.
Go for a walk
Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters – a walk outside, even if it’s just around the block, can help clear your mind.
Play a game
Whether it’s an online game or a board game with family, choose something that brings you comfort – sometimes, a bit of a distraction is just what you need.
It’s okay to feel down sometimes but what’s important is how you handle those bad days, and that you do your best to turn it around and take care of yourself. Remember you are stronger than you think.
