On the 12th of September, Millport held its very first Pride event, welcoming people from across the local community and beyond to come together, take part in the events and meet new people.
To kick off the event, hundreds of people lined the streets to watch the Pride march make its way along the coast of Millport. There were colourful signs, flags and banners throughout the town, while a band played music as the march continued through the streets. The atmosphere was incredibly positive, with people cheering, waving their flags and showing their support.
After the march reached its endpoint, the celebrations continued with a variety of stalls and activities for everyone to enjoy. There was a dedicated youth space offering face painting, colouring and glitter tattoos, as well as a quiet area where people could relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle. There were also plenty of other activities, stalls and opportunities for people to get involved.
One of the best parts of the day was seeing so many people come together and support one another. There were so many amazing people involved in organising and running the event, helping to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for everyone who attended.
Although the event faced some backlash from certain people within the Millport community, hundreds of people still came along to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community and to stand together against discrimination and hatred. The large turnout showed just how many people wanted to celebrate diversity, equality and acceptance within the community.
Overall, Millport’s first Pride was a fantastic day filled with colour, music, laughter and, most importantly, people coming together. Hopefully, this will be the first of many Pride events in Millport, giving the community another opportunity to celebrate, support one another and show that everyone is welcome.
