On the 9th to 11th of October, 40 pupils embarked on an exciting 3 day trip to London with the Music and Drama faculty to further develop their understanding of theatre and culture outside the classroom.
During this trip, students were lead by the 4 amazing staff members who went with us; Mrs. Shedden, Mrs. White, Miss. Buchanan and Mr. Campbell (Faculty Lead of Music and Drama, a former Drama teacher, one of our Drama teachers and our IT technician) .
Students started off the trip with quite an awakening – literally – with an early start on the Wednesday morning to meet at Glasgow Central Station at 7am. After that first part of the adventure pupils travelled all the way down to London to enjoy sights such as Leicester Square, the London Underground and Chinatown, topped off with dinner at Bella Italia and concluded the evening with a showing of Back to the Future. We ended with a late night return to the hotel.
A semi-early morning again on the Thursday to get our breakfast and then we headed out for some more sightseeing. We started our morning with a trip to the London Science Museum , then a flight on the London Eye with a tour of Westminster from Miss. Buchanan being squeezed in there as well. We then headed to a lovely meal at Honest Burger and out for a showing of Wicked. Ended again with a late night. On this day we also all wore yellow ribbons to celebrate Mental Health Day.
The last and final day we woke to go for our breakfast and check out of the hotel. We headed straight for the underground to get on our River Thames tour cruise. We had all of our luggage in tow with us the whole day which I think taught the group responsibility for their own stuff. After the river cruise we went sightseeing around Tower of London. After that we headed to Covent Gardens to do some shopping and sightseeing before heading on our final underground journey to London Euston station to get our train back to Glasgow Centre.
Here are some quotes from some students who went :
“It made me more independent.“ – K
“It made me happy.“ – C
“Brought me joy.“ – T
“Don’t go near men with pigeons!” – I & P (this one is an inside joke from the trip where a few pupils nearly got attacked pigeons in Leicester Square)
During the trip, students learnt the importance of spending money responsibly, general responsibility, independence and how to navigate busy cities and public transport. Students also learned about the culture of theatre and the area in and around London. Students were also praised on their exemplary behaviour by members of the public and staff.
The trip provided students with invaluable experiences, fostering friendships and developing a deeper appreciation for theatre. Over all the trip was an amazing experience that sure everyone who had the opportunity to go will remember for ever.
