A group of Garnock Academy senior students are preparing to embark on the adventure of a lifetime as they head to Malaysia for what promises to be an unforgettable experience.
As part of the International World Challenge programme, S4 Pastoral teacher Miss Still will accompany students Gary Caldwell, Elliott Doull, Scott Harley, Maggie Li, Mitchell McDonald, Ethan McGuill, Logan McNaught, Nathan Mobbs and Jake Raybould on the exciting expedition.
Miss Still explained what is involved in the trip: “We’ll begin in Kuala Lumpur, where we’ll get to explore the city and experience a completely different culture before travelling on to the historic city of Malacca.
“One of the things we’re most excited about is taking part in a turtle conservation project.
“While we’re there, we’ll be helping with beach clean-ups, planting trees and even taking part in night patrols to protect nesting turtles and this is a great opportunity to make a real difference while learning about environmental issues.”
Student Jake Raybould is looking forward to the trip. He said: “It’s hard to believe it is time to pack and go, it’s exciting and I can’t quite believe it’s happening.
“I cannot wait to see what Malaysia is like and visit a rainforest though I am not sure how I will manage to sit still on a plane for 13 hours!”
The team will also push themselves on a challenging three-day jungle trek, camping in the rainforest, cooking their own meals and working together to complete the challenge.
Miss Still added: “It will take us out of our comfort zones, but we’re looking forward to it.
“To finish off the trip, we’ll take part in white water rafting before heading home. We’re all really excited for the adventure ahead and can’t wait to build our confidence, independence and teamwork skills—bring it on!”
