Skills: Pupils Have a Grand Design on a Career in Construction

On Tuesday the 8th October the campus welcomed visitors from Ashleigh Construction and Ayrshire College to talk to the S1 Skills for Work class about careers in construction. They talked to the pupils about their jobs and what different roles were involved in the construction industry.

Pupils also took part in a challenge to match tasks with jobs within the building industry.

Then it was time to get to work as the pupils who had worked in groups to create their own grand designs for new build homes. One of the designs even included a McDonald’s waterslide and hot tub.

The representatives from Ashleigh and Ayrshire College talked to the pupils about their designs and were impressed with their imagination.

Mrs Eck from Skills for Work organised the sessions and was impressed with the S1’s commitment to the project.

“They listened well and it was great to see them all working together in their groups. I would like to thank Nikki and Ethan from Ashleigh and Graham from Ayrshire College for their support for this.

We hope to have more sessions with other representatives from another industry next term.”
