The Kilbirnie Light Switch On

The annual Kilbirnie Light Switch On was on the last Saturday of November.

This year’s light switch on had many different events including but not limited to;

  1. Meeting Elsa (Karis Harwood – S2 pupil at GCC) and the Grinch (Rhyan Gorrie – S6 pupil at GCC)
  2. A duck hunt across the shops on the Main street
  3. The Kilbirnie Fayre across from Tesco
  4. A Meet and Greet with Santa and Mrs Claus
  5. And multiple separate activities across stalls and shops.

I (the writer of this article) was helping at the stand at the walker hall handing out hot chocolate to the attendees. Our stall was where Mr Grinch and Elsa were found roaming about, as well as a lucky fortune wheel where you could win fun prizes.

This year’s switch on was nearly a disaster as the big tree was having technical difficulties and an announcement was sent out saying the tree would not light up. However, despite this warning, the tree did light up although half of it was malfunctioning/lighting up out of sync. This brought a bit of hope to the people who were watching as everyone was convinced it wouldn’t be possible.

I hope that the light switch on is just as beautiful, if not more chaotic, next year.

    Well done Alx! You made some amazing Hot Chocolates 🙂 The Junior & Youth Forums did a fab job of bringing a bit of Christmas Cheer to the community.
