Ways to Make Your Writing More Immersive

Lots of people have different ways of writing, most of them are great, it all boils down to preference. Whether you write about crime or horror or even fantasy and action, the most important thing is appealing to the readers by making your writing immersive.

Some ways I do this include:

  • Alot of description – Bringing the scenery to life really affects the passage, causing it to pique the interest of the reader. Also, description of your characters emotions really drags the reader in!
  • Pathetic Fallacy – If you aren’t familiar with this term, Pathetic Fallacy is the writing technique for when you use human emotions to describe inanimate things or animals. This also works when using your characters emotions, for example: The girl crept carefully through the woods, her heightened fear and paranoia causing the looming branches to seem as if they are groping out to her.
  • Metaphors and similes – Studying these will help you with description and make it on another level! Metaphors are when you say something is something, for example: The sea is a bundle of rage and horror. Whereas a simile is when you use like or as to describe something: Glitter is like a ball of stars.
  • Interesting plotlines without plot holes – Finding plot-holes when you’re in the early stages of writing make the whole process easier, and good plotlines make it easier for people to follow along. Even if your writing is amazing, plot holes will ruin the story. Also, dull plotlines make the story boring, and it makes the book feel like a chore to read. Harry Potter, a beloved series with Ok writing, but the plot holes ruin it and makes it more complicated

Bonus Advice:

People read books to finish them, it’s a rewarding feeling when you finish an amazing book. However, if your ending isn’t satisfying, it ruins the reader’s experience! Theres a book called ‘Doll Bones’ and it has an overall interesting plot, but I wouldn’t recommend it due to the dull and anti-climactic ending. It made me feel uneasy at how simple and fast the ending was.

In conclusion, using these techniques and tips will benefit your writing for the better!

Remember, these are only suggestions, everyone has their own style. These are merely helpful tips and guides for those looking for some!
